Our Adult Improvers Ballroom & Latin Dance Classes in Bollington, Macclesfield are designed for dancers who have gained some experience and would now like to develop their dancing, learn new figures and become more confident on the dance floor.

Whether you have progressed through one of our beginners classes, have danced at another dance school, or are returning to dancing after a break, our Improvers classes provide a friendly and enjoyable way to continue developing your skills.

Our Improvers classes are ideal if you:

• Have completed a beginners dance course or class
• Have danced previously and would like to start again
• Want to learn additional figures and routines

You don’t need to be an expert.

If you can already dance some of the basic figures and would like to progress, our Improvers class could be the perfect next step.

Ballroom & Latin Dancing – Just Like You See on Strictly

If you enjoy watching Strictly Come Dancing and would love to develop your own Ballroom and Latin dancing, our Improvers classes give you the opportunity to learn more of the dances, figures and techniques associated with the programme.

Depending on the class programme, dances can include:

Ballroom

Latin American

• Cha Cha Cha
• Rumba
• Jive
• Samba
• Paso Doble

 

We also teach Modern and Classical Sequence Dancing within our adult class programme.

You don’t need to learn everything at once. New figures and techniques are introduced progressively, giving you time to understand and enjoy each dance.

Progress Beyond the Basic Steps

Once you have learned the basic steps, dancing becomes even more enjoyable.

Our Improvers classes begin to develop not only what steps you dance, but also how you dance them.

We can work on areas such as:

• New figures and combinations
• Timing and musicality
• Ballroom hold
• Leading and following
• Movement around the floor
• Partnering skills
• Confidence and presentation

 

Good technique isn’t just for competitive dancers. Even small improvements in posture, timing and movement can make social dancing feel easier, smoother and much more enjoyable.

Friendly, Relaxed Adult Dance Classes

DanceTech isn’t about putting people under pressure.

Our adult dance classes are designed to be friendly, relaxed and social, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy yourself while improving your dancing.

Many people join us because they want to learn something new, but they also enjoy becoming part of the social side of the school.

Throughout the year we organise a variety of social dances, practice nights and special events, giving our dancers opportunities to put what they’ve learned into practice and enjoy dancing outside their regular class.

We’ve organised events ranging from regular social dances and practice evenings to visits to the famous Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, including both public dancing visits and our own privately hired event.

We’ve also brought dancers from across the school together at venues including Stockport Town Hall Ballroom, as well as supporting community and charity events.

There are further DanceTech social events planned throughout 2026 and 2027.

Our regular classes are pay as you go.

You pay for your lesson when you attend and only pay for the classes you actually come to.

There’s no need to commit to a long course or pay several weeks or months in advance.

This makes it easy to fit dancing around holidays, work and other commitments.

Improve Your Dancing at Your Own Pace

Everyone progresses at a different speed.

You may want to learn lots of new figures, improve your technique, become a better social dancer or simply enjoy an evening of Ballroom and Latin dancing each week.

There’s no pressure to progress at any particular speed.

Our aim is to help you become a more confident and enjoyable dancer while making sure you continue to enjoy your time on the dance floor.

Private / One-to-One Dance Lessons

If there is something in particular you’d like extra help with, we also offer Private / One-to-One Ballroom & Latin Dance Lessons.

Private lessons can be particularly useful if you would like to:

• Catch up on something you’ve missed in class
• Improve a particular dance
• Work on technique
• Develop your lead or follow
• Learn additional figures
• Prepare for an examination
• Build confidence before progressing to another class

 

Private lessons can be tailored completely around what you want to learn.

The Civic Hall has a large sprung wooden dance floor, making it an excellent venue for Ballroom and Latin dancing.

Moving On to Intermediate Dancing

Our Improvers class doesn’t have to be the end of your progression.

Once you have gained more experience and confidence, DanceTech also offers Intermediate Ballroom & Latin Dance Classes for dancers who want to develop their dancing and technique even further.

This means you can progress from:

Beginners → Improvers → Intermediate and Advanced Dancing

while continuing to learn within the same friendly dance school.

Frequently Asked Questions

What level do I need to join the Improvers class?

You don’t need to be an experienced dancer. The class is intended for people who already have some knowledge of basic Ballroom and Latin dancing and would like to progress further.

I’ve danced before but haven’t danced for several years. Can I join?

Yes. Returning dancers are very welcome. Depending on how much you remember, the Improvers class may be ideal. Contact us if you’re unsure and we’ll help you choose the most suitable class.

No. You’re welcome to join us if you learned elsewhere.

What dances will I learn?

Our adult programme covers popular Ballroom dances such as Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep and Latin American dances including Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Samba and Paso Doble. We also teach Modern and Classical Sequence.

Will I learn dance technique as well as steps?

Yes. As dancers progress beyond beginners level, we increasingly introduce elements such as posture, footwork, timing, movement, lead and follow and other aspects of Ballroom and Latin technique.

Are the classes competitive?

No. Most people attend because they enjoy dancing and want to improve. For those interested in examinations or other challenges, additional opportunities are available, but these are entirely optional.

Do I have to pay for a full course in advance?

No. Our regular classes are pay as you go, so you pay when you attend and only pay for the classes you come to.

Are there opportunities to practise outside class?

Yes. DanceTech organises practice nights, social dances and other events throughout the year, giving dancers opportunities to practise and enjoy their dancing socially.

Can I have a private lesson as well?

Yes. Private / One-to-One lessons are available and are ideal for working on specific dances, catching up on missed class material or improving your technique.

What happens when I become too advanced for the Improvers class?

We also offer Intermediate and more advanced adult classes, so there are opportunities to continue progressing as your dancing develops
