Ballroom & Latin Dancing

The Advanced Class covers a wide range of Ballroom and Latin American dances.

Ballroom

We work on dances including:

• Waltz
• Tango
• Foxtrot
• Quickstep

At advanced level greater attention is placed on movement, swing, sway, shaping, footwork, floorcraft and the connection between partners.

Latin American

Latin dances include:

• Cha Cha Cha
• Samba
• Rumba
• Paso Doble
• Jive

We develop timing, rhythm, leg and foot action, body movement, presentation and the individual character of each dance.

Other dance styles and sequences may also be incorporated into the class throughout the year.

Learn from an IDTA Fellow, Examiner & Adjudicator

The Advanced Class is taught by DanceTech Principal Peter Bailey, who has over 30 years of teaching experience and is one of the UK’s highly qualified Ballroom and Latin dance professionals.

Peter holds multiple Fellowships with the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) and is an IDTA Examiner and member of the IDTA Board of Examiners.

He is also an experienced Ballroom and Latin competition adjudicator, including judging at IDTA Medallist Qualifiers and Finals.

During his professional career Peter has won all four of the IDTA’s major professional awards, giving advanced dancers the opportunity to learn from a teacher with extensive knowledge of Ballroom and Latin technique.

His experience ranges from teaching complete beginners through to advanced dancers, competitors, medal examination candidates and professional dance teachers.

IDTA Medal Examinations

For dancers who would like an additional challenge, there are opportunities to work towards IDTA Medal Examinations.

Taking examinations is completely optional.

Many of our dancers simply attend because they enjoy dancing and want to continue improving, while others enjoy having the additional goal of working towards an examination.

Whatever your reason for dancing, we will help you continue to develop at a level appropriate to your ability.
